A single slow drain is usually a local clog. A whole house that drains poorly at once, or a floor drain that burbles when the washer empties, is a main-line problem, and the two need different tools. We start by figuring out which one you have rather than snaking blindly.
In Peoria, two things drive recurring drain trouble: mineral scale from very hard water narrowing older pipe, and tree roots finding the joints of clay and cast-iron sewer laterals in the mature central neighborhoods. Both are fixable, and both tend to return if you only clear the symptom.
Local clogs versus a main-line backup
Kitchen lines clog with grease and food that hardens against scale-narrowed pipe. Bath lines clog with hair and soap. A cabled auger clears these, and for a stubborn kitchen line we will often recommend hydro jetting to actually scour the wall of the pipe rather than just punch a hole through the blockage.
When multiple fixtures back up together, the blockage is downstream in the building drain or the sewer lateral. Cabling can restore flow, but a camera inspection is what tells you whether roots, a belly, or a broken section is the real cause.
Why Peoria drains clog again
In Old Town and the older 1970s and 1980s neighborhoods, sewer laterals are often clay or cast iron with joints that leak just enough to attract roots from the large trees those streets are known for. Roots re-enter, so a clear-and-forget approach fails within a season or two.
Hard-water scale is the other driver. It builds on the inside of galvanized and older drain lines, shrinking the bore until grease and solids catch. Frequently asked questions
Should I use a store drain chemical first?
We would rather you did not. Caustic drain chemicals sit against scale-thinned pipe, can damage older lines, and rarely clear a real blockage. They also make the line hazardous for us to open. A cable or jet is safer and actually works.
Why does my kitchen drain keep clogging?
Usually grease building on hard-water scale inside the pipe. Cabling opens a channel, but hydro jetting scours the full diameter, which is why a jetted kitchen line stays clear far longer here.
The whole house is draining slowly. What does that mean?
That points to the main building drain or the sewer lateral, not any one fixture. We would cable to restore flow and run a camera to find why it happened, since roots and pipe damage are common causes in older Peoria neighborhoods.
Do you clear outdoor and cleanout blockages too?
